How we write
How we write Far Away Daughter
Who is behind this desk, how a fact gets onto a page, who pays for what, and the lines the site will not cross.
This site is supported by New Plan Care, a St. Louis in-home care company.
Who publishes it
Far Away Daughter is published by OwnersFirm, a St. Louis company. It is written for one reader: the daughter who lives in another city while her mother or father lives in the St. Louis area. Pages carry a desk byline rather than a person's name, because nobody who writes here is a clinician, and a named byline would suggest an expertise the site does not have.
How a fact gets onto a page
Every number, program, rule and phone number links to the public page it came from, in that page's own words and year. We prefer federal and state agencies first, then established nonprofits. Hospitals appear only as pointers to their own patient pages. Before a phone number is printed, someone opens the organization's official page and copies it from there; if we could not see it on the page, it does not go on the site. The sources page lists what we cited and the date each page was opened.
Each guide starts from a question a daughter actually types, answers it in order, and ends with two things: what to do tonight, and what to take to her doctor. We write in plain language, second person, and we avoid telling you how to feel about the distance. We also never tell you to move home.
Who supports this site
The two companies are not commonly owned. It is named in the footer of every page. Its form is on the home page, and a short box sits at the end of each article. It is not a ranking and not a review. No other provider is named as a recommendation, and no public agency on this site pays to be listed.
The one form on the home page goes to New Plan Care Solutions and nowhere else. It asks for a name and email, makes the phone number optional, and asks how you want to be contacted. Please do not type health details into it.
What this site will not do
- Diagnose, interpret symptoms or suggest treatment. Medication questions go to her doctor or pharmacist.
- Print a price, an hourly rate or a benefit amount it cannot source to an official page.
- Rank, score or criticize hospitals, facilities, agencies or care managers.
- Invent statistics, quotes, reviews or family stories.
- Repeat licensing, insurance or star-rating claims on anyone's behalf.
- Replace a lawyer on questions about papers, recording rules or money.
Photographs
Stock photographs come from Pexels under its license. Photographs credited "Photo: New Plan Care Solutions" are the client's own and appear only where the client is discussed or where they show what ordinary help at home looks like. No photograph on this site shows a real patient.
Corrections
If a fact here does not match its source, the source wins, and we want to fix the page. Tell the publisher, OwnersFirm, which page, which sentence and which source you are looking at. A corrected page gets a new modified date. If the error was a phone number, we recheck every page that prints that number, not only the one you found.
For questions about care for your own parent, this page is the wrong place: use the local help directory, or call the provider featured on the home page.
